MOPS_DanceSyndrome

The non-profit association MOPS_DanceSyndrome, which is officially recognized of public utility, is a Swiss independent artistic, cultural, and social organization in the world of contemporary dance and disability, the only one of its kind in Europe. Created in 2008 in Muralto-Locarno by the choreographer and multidisciplinary Swiss artist Ela Franscella, the association, contemporary dance school and company for young people with Down syndrome aims at developing and promoting choreographic and cinematographic projects, offering continuing education in contemporary dance, and showing to the public that what was once perceived as a shortcoming can be a strength and become an artistic and cultural resource, an example, and an enrichment for the society.

MOPS_DanceSyndrome is recognized by Pro Helvetia and Danse Suisse, and has currently produced 10 original dance shows which have been performed at international dance festivals in Switzerland and abroad. It has also participated at workshops with Swiss and foreign professional dance companies whose members are non-disabled.

In addition to the dance shows, the association has produced 4 short films of video art directed by Ela Franscella with the participation of the MOPS_DanceSyndrome dancers. These films have been selected and screened at many international film festivals.

Freight: No freight necessary

Description

Choreus Numinis is the result of an in-depth study of a selection of artworks chosen from the masterpieces permanently exposed at the Ghisla Art Collection in Locarno (Switzerland). Artworks that have significantly marked the contemporary art scene, and range from the action painting of Sam Francis and Cy Twombly to the wild energy of Basquiat’s Pop Art, passing through the south American expressiveness of Botero, and reaching the programmed art of the Italians Boetti and Bonalumi.

Thanks to a choreographic research work that does not leave room for improvisation, the dance of MOPS_DanceSyndrome translates into movement the emotions and messages of the artworks. The dancers, in solos or “pas des deux”, become ring of conjunction between the masterpieces and the audience, creating a harmony among dance, music, and exhibited artworks.

Description

In a mysterious equilibrium, wild and wise, the danced expression meets the imaginary and the meditation on a path of continuous transformation. A tension between reality and fiction, in which the movement's awareness and the body's silence become a channel, ring of conjunction and dialogue amid two universes.

Through a steady capsizing of perspectives, Sublime SporciX invites you to reflect on the intrinsic bond between the human being and the animal. An original choregraphy by Ela Franscella, inspired by the exhibition "Lick" of the Italian artist Chiara Lecca, in which the dancers take hold of the space and make every artificial barrier fall by releasing power and authenticity.
