Theater Hora
Theater HORA from Zurich is one of the best-known independent dance, theatre and performance groups in Switzerland. The group works regularly with important artists and collectives from Germany and abroad and performs in local, national and international locations of the theatre scene.
MULTIPLE INTERNATIONAL AWARDS
With Jérôme Bel’s production DISABLED THEATER, Theater HORA was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen in 2012 as one of the ten best productions. In this context, the “Alfred Kerr Actor Award for Outstanding Performance by a Young Actress” was awarded to HORA actress Julia Häusermann. In 2014, Julia Häusermann was also nominated for the New York Bessie Award. All of this was celebrated nationwide not only as a remarkable artistic achievement, but also as a groundbreaking sign of inclusion. In 2016, Theater HORA received Switzerland’s highest theater award, the «Swiss Grand Prix Theater/Hans-Reinhart-Ring», from the Federal Office of Culture. In addition to the successful theater ensemble, Theater HORA also has a second department — the HORA’BAND.
NOT DESPITE BUT THANKS TO IMPAIRMENT
The ongoing cooperation with important representatives of the regular theater scene shows that Theater HORA has succeeded in becoming one of the top addresses in the independent theater landscape in Switzerland – and not despite, but precisely because of the impairment of its ensemble members. Not least because of this, Theater HORA also received the «Swiss Grand Prix Theater/Hans-Reinhart-Ring». Since it was founded in 1993 by the director and theater teacher Michael Elber, Theater HORA has made a significant contribution to changing the often deficit-oriented public perception of people with cognitive impairments and drawing attention to their sometimes extraordinary abilities. The self-confident and extraordinarily free-acting stage presence of the HORA actors has been an essential characteristic of the group from the very beginning. The promotion of their self-determination as people and artists is at the heart of the HORA philosophy, because Theater HORA regards its actors neither as “patients” nor as “clients”, but as indispensable, unique and artistically equal employees who are fully inherent Possibilities.

Sacre!
Description: Now who is to be sacrificed? And above all: who doesn't?
With SACRE! one of the most famous ballet classics is finally reinterpreted by Theater HORA. The starting position is clear: The 1913 premiere of "Le sacre du printemps", composed by Igor Stravinsky.
Extra information: The scandalous dance piece, which culminates in the sacrifice of a young woman who dances herself to death, is brought to the stage with a great deal of humor by the HORA Ensemble. In the production by Teresa Vittucci and Annina Machaz, the themes of the original are really shaken up. Bassoon or trumpet? Spring god or robot? Ritual or peer pressure? And when does an index finger actually become a deadly claw? We embark on a trip and surrender in intoxication. In specially for SACRE! costumes designed by the performers turn out to be like caterpillars in ecstasy. The seasons are going into fast forward and the race against time has begun. Spring will come again.

The Sick House
Description: The Theater Hora and the collective vorschlag:hammer will jointly devote themselves to the hospital complex and its media staging in “The sick house”.
Extra information: They will compare their own experiences in hospitals with those from "Grey's Anatomy", they will re-enact an operation or a visit from "Emergency room", they will report from interviews with hospital staff from their everyday life and they will pursue the question of what the Institution hospital means in our society and how it has grown historically. In doing so, they will always implicitly negotiate their own bodies on stage, which are labeled as healthy or sick. They will identify and reverse power constellations, exaggerate, rationalize or emotionalize.

We are very pleased about the cooperation and partnership with HAUSER & PARTNER. «Hauser & Partner stands for Brand Experience and Brand Spaces. As a team with creative minds and specialists, we create unforgettable spatial experiences for brands and companies. Initiated by Carlo Hauser, at the end of 2021 we decided against sending Christmas presents to customers and employees in the future. We believe that social commitment is our duty and in future we want to get involved all year round instead of giving gifts at Christmas time. We are happy to have found a partner in the HORA Theater that we can support as much as we can."
