Europe Beyond Access introduces… artist Michael Turinsky, a choreographer, performer and theoretician in Vienna.
Turinsky’s work is marked with an interest in the relationship between politics and aesthetics, and issues of gender, visibility and invisibility.
In this short film, he talks about the role of sensuality, sexuality and politics in his contemporary dance practice and how he uses the natural movement language of his body to inform the work he choreographs for other dancers.
Michael Turinsky’s artist profile is part of a series commissioned on some of Europe’s leading disabled performing artists as part of Europe Beyond Access.
Europe Beyond Access is a collaboration between seven leading arts organisations from across Europe: British Council (UK and Poland), Onassis Stegi (Greece), Holland Dance Festival (The Netherlands), Kampnagel (Germany); Per.Art (Serbia), Skånes Dansteater (Sweden), and Oriente Occidente (Italy). It is co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Commission and aims to support disabled artists to break through the glass ceilings of the contemporary theatre and dance sectors.
